Every story has a beginning, and at some point it must begin its century. The history of the Volvo brand began in the 1930s in Sweden, at the SFK bearing factory located in Gothenburg.
It all started with a chance meeting between two factory workers, Gustav Larsson and Assar Gabrielsson, who happened to meet in a small restaurant during their lunch break.
Rumor has it that the first was an engineer and designer, and the second was an economist with a flair for business. They were united by a passion for cars.
Both agreed that their dream was to create their own car and open a technologically advanced (at that time) production line.
And although the creation of a large automobile concern was still far away (it was 1924), the friends rolled up their sleeves and got to work.
To begin with, they used the Volvo trademark, patented by the factory back in 1915.
To achieve success on the European continent, the Volvo brand decided to cooperate with Ford, whose popularity had already crossed the borders of the United States a few decades earlier.
The cooperation brought new automotive developments in the form of the Volvo S40, XC90 (the first SUV) and XC60.
The XC60 was an incredibly innovative model - it was the only car in the world capable of independently braking in front of an obstacle and maintaining the appropriate speed behind the vehicle driving in front.
When it comes to safety, the Volvo brand will always be one step ahead of other car manufacturers.
And it is also ahead of them in environmental awareness, producing cars with 4R VEA engines - Volvo Environmental Architecture - engines that allow the accumulation of kinetic energy.
In 2022, a generation of cars with the ability to drive autonomously will go on sale - the car's advanced electronics will “feel” whether it is possible to activate this function on a given section of the road.
It seems that Volvo is not working on new car models, but on the development of artificial intelligence - the brand's cars have become more aware over the years and sometimes react to dangerous situations faster than the driver.
Soon he will also take full responsibility for driving.
Volvo is a part of Geely and also makes Polestar cars.
