The history of the existence of the first automotive company in India Mahindra takes us into the distant years of WW2.

In 1945, a man named John Mahindra, while India was a diplomat in Washington, decided to give up his political career in order to do serious business. It helped him one of the top officials of neighboring Pakistan - Ghulam Mohammed. The new company was called Mahindra & Mohammed.

At the same time it started, and the development of India's first car. As an "experimental" brothers instance rover company Willys-Overland was chosen, which Mahindra brothers were going a bit further developed and put on the conveyor.

However, due to numerous problems, the company's first car debuted already in 1965. Basically, the machine was quite interesting, but the original she was very far away. Besides, the Indian buyer was not ready for such vehicles, because of the popular model did not.

His rebirth company experienced in the early 80-ies of XX century. However, the self-made cars Indians are still not running. The company continued to develop vehicles for Willys license, and soon moved to work on several models of Jeep brand famous for the American manufacturer license.

It is on the basis of Jeep car company created the first machine in the history of independent India's automotive industry. We are talking about vehicles, dubbed the Commander - 3- and 5-door Phaeton and a huge wagon the CL series, designed for 8 people, and a smaller five-seat variation Commander Marshall with a huge cargo bay. Already in 1993, the export of these vehicles in Germany, that India was a real breakthrough.

In the same time period in the Mahindra plant began production of 5-door wagon Armada (5-seater) and Armada Grand (car 7 seats), which on the background of the previous model different real European comfort and increased ease of use. By the way, these cars used new diesel units from the company Peugeot power of 55 hp and a volume of 2.1 liters.

At the same time, in the 90s, was an active work on minibuses and vans model Mahindra Voyager, which were created based on the Mitsubishi L300 (1979 sample. Oddly, but in India, similar cars were in great demand. Apparently, the whole thing was in their relative cheapness. His fans got and such developments as mini-trucks Tempo (the Willys license), minibuses and FJ460 DP FJ470 DS4 (UAZ), as well as trucks Cabstar and Cabking (Nissan).

In 2002 it started the production of the vehicle Mahindra Scorpio, which became the first independent development in the company's history. This 4-door SUV proved to be revolutionary for India, because in just a few years the car was exported to many countries, and as of today has reached even before the United States.

The car is positioned as a high-quality all-terrain vehicle and is equipped with one of three engines in volume from 2.1 to 2.6 liters. By the way, in 2008 the company introduced a hybrid version of the car, which is supposed producer already may soon be on the conveyor.

Another classic model for India - Mahindra Bolero, the second generation of which was published in 2007. The updated version of the machine, which has become the flagship of the Indian automobile industry, is equipped with a 2.5-liter 72-hp diesel engine, all-wheel drive and 4-speed transmission. The model comes in a body 4-door pick-up, being one of the most popular cars in India.

Very interesting was the model of Mahindra Xylo, production of which began in 2008. 4-door crossover is equipped with a 2.5-liter 112-hp engine and Turbo 5-speed gearbox, available in four variants: E2, E4, E6 and E8, which have small differences. In addition, the car is equipped with the latest technology: here you and park-tronic, and ABS, and many other auxiliary functions.

A true financial breakthrough for the company was a co-production with Renault famous model of the French manufacturer - Logan, which began in 2007. Today, the Indian company collects and sells in their home country 4-door sedans, which are equipped with one of the three types of engines (to choose from: 1,4- and 1,6-liter petrol and 1.5 liter diesel engines).

In connection with the "home" assembly, the cost of Mahindra-Renault Logan was significantly lower than the price offered for the original, it is not surprising that this model has become increasingly popular in India and neighboring countries.

Over the 65 years of its existence, to the benefit of the company Mahindra has gone 30 years, not more. Rest of the time an activity is practically absent. However, in recent decades, the company forced to talk about himself.

First there were assembled under license from other companies carriages, SUVs, trucks, tractors (PDF Manuals for Mahindra Tractors are HERE) and vans. Then it was time much more comfortable for the passenger cars developed by specialists of Indian companies directly. And today Mahindra is actively working on a purely passenger cars. Such as, for example, Mahindra-Renault Logan.
